Myofunctional Therapy FAQs

Is OMT covered by my insurance?

There are thousands of insurance policies and every one is different. Lots of policies, particularly for children under 18, cover some or all of an OMT program. Often coverage falls under the ‘Reduction of oral habits’ or ‘Orthodontics’ categories.

What is involved?

All OMT programs are individually designed to meet your specific needs, so programs will vary. Programs include strengthening and toning exercises for your facial muscles. Some include tools to aid in this training such as button pulls and chew tubes. Other referrals for frenuloplasty, speech therapy, chiropractic support, and orthodontics are often included.

How long will it take?

Basic OMT programs are 12 sessions, scheduled biweekly. Advanced programs and oral habit elimination programs can run longer from 18-20 sessions. How consistent one is with their home exercises really impacts treatment time.
