Dental Hygiene FAQs

What Dental Hygiene Services do you offer?

We currently offer several services in the Dental Hygiene Process of Care, very similar to your traditional Dentist-owned setting. These include:

  • Oral Assessments: Health, Periodontal assessment, oral hygiene assessment and education, disclosing, CAMBRA risk assessment and more

  • Treatment Planning and Implementation: “Traditional” scaling (cleaning) and polishing services, as well as fluoride and chlorhexidine application, sealants, sports guards and whitening services.

  • Evaluation and Referrals: Monitoring your Dental Hygiene goals and evaluating your progress, as well as referrals to other healthcare professionals as required.

  • Temporary restorative solutions like SDF and IST to stabilize suspected cavities until a Dentist can be seen

Do I still need to see a dentist?

The role of Dental Hygiene is that of prevention. We want to work to reduce or eliminate your need for fillings, root canals and extractions! However, Dental Hygienists cannot diagnose cavities, therefore it is recommended that you see your Dentist regularly, based on your risk assessment, for Xrays, and examination.

How are Dental Hygiene Services billed? Can I use my insurance?

Dental Hygienists have a separate (often less costly) fee guide from Dentists, called the CDHA fee guide. All services are assigned a fee, like at your traditional, dentist owned clinic. Yes, your insurance accepts this fee guide. In order to make your experience as stress free as possible, we are an assignment office. Which means we bill directly to your insurance. Any remaining balance will be collected after your insurance payment is received.

What insurances do you accept?

Something To Smile About accepts ALL insurance plans including all private carriers, Healthy Smiles (HSO,) Disability (ODSP,) Canada Dental Care Plan (CDCP) and NIHB plans. If you have questions about your coverage allowances please feel to contact us!
